What to Avoid With Chandelier Lamp Shades

Chandelier lamp shades are those little lamp shades that adorn a chandelier light fitting. Of course, chandeliers don’t always have shades, especially those very fancy chandeliers made of crystal but simpler light fittings often do. These mini lamp shades serve a useful purpose in that they soften the light and they are also very decorative. If you are looking for these shades here are a few tips on what to avoid:-

1. Getting the Wrong Size

Most chandeliers only look good with the right size shade : too big and the shades swamp the light fitting, too small and the shades don’t cover the bulbs effectively.

2. Getting the Wrong Color

The shades need to be the right color for the room. The mistake I see most often is to leave the plain white shades that often come with a chandelier in a natural colored room. In that case the shades need to be cream or natural colors too.

3. Getting the Wrong Style

Over embellished shades do not look good in a plain formal room. Beading and trimmings look better in a romantic bedroom. if you want shades that are a little different go for a pattern rather than too much glamor.

4. Being Too Plain

On the other hand, don’t miss the opportunity to add plenty of glamorous touches in a room which warrants it. Plain shades will look fine in most places, it is true, but it’s a shame to stick with plain when a little beading would add the right decorative touch.

5. Spending too Much

With a chandelier you will need to buy a number of shades so you need to keep the cost of each individual lamp shade under control. Look for shades during sales at department stores or shop around online at e-commerce stores and auction sites to keep within your budget.
