Deciding on a rice cooker

With so many options, it may be confusing to know the best rice cooker to purchase. What are the options and which one is best for your situation? These are the questions that this article aims to address.

Firstly, it is important that you have a ball park figure of how much you are willing to spend. These appliances vary in price from under $20 to over $400. This is a huge price range. There are many decent machines that can be found in between too. Then once you know what you are thinking of spending it is then possible to narrow down your choices even further.

Another helpful question to ask yourself is, how big a machine do I need? Rice cooking appliances typically come in three different sizes, small, medium and large. These can feed up to five, ten and eighteen people respectively. From this you can determine which size best suits your needs. For me, the smallest, 3 cup devices are the best. I sometimes make rice for a few people but never more than five at once. Larger machines are slightly more expensive. However differences in price are more to do with the technical components included rather than the size of the appliance.

The next thing to consider is what brand you would like to get. There are a host of different makers such as Sanyo, Panasonic, Zojirushi, Tiger and Aroma. Most of these are Japanese companies. This is not surprising because they have one of the top electronics industries in the world. Also they eat rice every day so demand quality kitchen appliances capable of making rice that tastes great. Some people have a preference for one of these makes over another so it is a good idea to check them all out. Make sure to read plenty of rice cooker reviews before you make your final decision.
