Design Trends: Striped Curtains

Stripes are really one of the biggest design trends right now. It’s such a modern look. You’ll also see it’s one of the few outdoor fabric trends that’s showing up on window blinds and under metal garden gazebos. It’s also pretty neutral and even can be a traditional pattern depending on the colors that you go with. If you’ve ever painted a striped wall, you probably haven’t really attempted it again. This is just because it’s so difficult with the texture of walls to get really straight and crisp lines. The same thing goes for hanging wallpaper. This is why just using this trendy pattern on your upholstery instead is going to be so convenient. In fact, we are even seeing updated versions outside or in the backyard as well.

The big change in the stripes is that they are more modern. This also means that they are horizontal. This means that you are probably going to have to get wider curtain panels or make sure that your curtain panels line up to each other perfectly. This means that your window treatments are going to look great when they’re either opened or closed. You don’t want a lot of pleats to really distract from the very obvious pattern.

More traditional style stripes are out. This uses a richer upholstery fabric. It can have several metallic tones and deep rich colors. Oftentimes the stripes are quite subtle but they are in more of a pinstripe effect. Of course, this was also a lot more expensive than what you might be able to afford for window treatments. This also really meant that you were stuck with the color palette for longer just because you had invested more money, which really isn’t the smartest thing to do when considering trends.

However, the more modern style of stripe is just going to be wider. It’s probably just going to have one or two colors and usually one of these colors is white. This is a very casual feeling, so it’s perfect for any kind of nautical room or even if you want to add a more modern effect to a farmhouse kind of space. So don’t go crazy trying to paint stripes on your walls. Just get them on your curtains instead.
