Upgrading your standard ceramic sink to a designer one is a fairly simple way to make a huge impact on a room’s design. Many designer sinks are very dramatic in shape and color and would be a great addition to any kitchen or bathroom. In this post I want to show you some of the different types of designer sinks so you can make an educated decision on yours when it’s time to go shopping.
Farm sinks are extremely popular. They are essentially a box of a sink that is flush with or sticks out of the front of the cabinet that it sits in. Unlike traditional sinks that are secured into the counter top and braced below, these rest into the cabinet, so the frame has to be extremely strong to support the sink. Most farm sinks are made from copper, stainless steel, ceramic, or even concrete. They weigh a lot, so major support has to be in place. Other than the support, they work the same as traditional sinks.
Vessel sinks are also very popular. These sinks sit on the counter top, and look it a large bowl. These are more elegant than farm sinks because they are usually made from colored glass or stained concrete. It also takes custom cabinets to make these sinks work because they are mounted on the top, rather than inside the cabinet or vanity. It looks like they float on the counter top, but they are mounted at the drain and sealed at the bottom to make sure that they stay put. Vessels are usually paired with a bar sink faucet or other long and elegant style faucet.
Designer sinks make a huge impact on the home. They are certainly more expensive than traditional sinks, and take custom cabinetry to make them work, but if you can afford it you will absolutely love having these in your home!
