Maypop derives its name from the flowers’ tendency to pop-out of the barren earth as soon as May arrives. Maypops can be found along roadsides, fields and even wild wood areas. Passionflowers were named by missionaries, who believed in the flowers’ symbolization of Christ’s crucifixion.
