When the weather turns colder, something nice to have are flannel sheets. They offer the warmth you need and comfort when the temperatures are low. Surprisingly, they can also offer comfort during the summer months as well.
The nap of the flannel results in a wooly-like texture that continues to soften with use. For warm weather flannel sheets, they make the nap of the flannel shorter so there is not as much wooly texture.
These sheets come in a variety of sizes from crib size to king size and are very easy to care for. A mild detergent and perhaps a liquid fabric softener are all that is required, as well as making sure to keep the water temperature not too hot. Also, it is a critical to make sure that your sheets are fully dry before storing them in a closet. A good tip is to fold a dryer sheet into the sheets during storage so they come out fresh smelling when you are ready to use them again.
For long term usage, try to purchase a top quality sheet. Sheets manufactured from 100% cotton are the best choice. They can be used for a longer period of time and become more comfortable over time. A cotton blend is what most flannel sheets are comprised of today.
Flannel sheets having a fabric rating of at least five to six ounces per yard provide the best warmth and durability. They should be tightly woven as well. Selecting a ‘yarn dyed’ material is preferable, as the colors will not fade as easily. Take into consideration the size and type of mattress you will be using. The sheets should fit nicely.
