How To Use A Flea Bomb

Any house with pets can be susceptible to fleas. However, humans can also carry fleas into your home. Once introduced to a house, they will nest in bedding, carpet, and furniture. Fleas will bite any animal or person who enters the house and will hop rides on them and their clothing into other houses, simply spreading the infestation. A quality flea bomb is the ideal way to get rid of these biting, disease-spreading, and unwanted house guests.

When choosing a flea fogger, select one whose main, active ingredient is IGR. This chemical prevents fleas from reaching reproductive age, which will break the cycle of fleas in your home. Also consider the size and layout of your home. Most flea bombs will indicate approximate square foot coverage. Some bombs will indicate that at least one will be needed for each floor, including basements or attics.

To prepare your home, plan for a period of time when the entire family, especially children can be out of the home for several days. Ensure there are no open food containers and seal, using masking tape, all cabinet doors where dishes and food are kept. Move furniture onto uncarpeted surfaces where possible, this will allow the fogger to effectively treat the carpeted surfaces. Set up the bomb according to instructions and leave immediately. After the recommended time has elapsed, return home to open windows and turn on fans. Again, leave the house for at least another hour. All bombs should be properly disposed of, bedding and towels laundered, and all carpets vacuumed. It’s also a good idea to dust all surfaces to remove any remaining residue. Pets should be treated for fleas before re-entering the home, otherwise it may become re-infested.

When considering where to buy flea bombs, first check out the local home improvement store. These stores will have the largest selection. There may also be employees onsite to answer additional questions. Remember that flea bombs are poisonous and should be used with extreme caution. Follow all directions on the canister and never use in ways not specified by the manufacturer.
