Leather Rugs in Vogue

You know fashion. A leather rug will be in vogue one year and out the next. In some cases you just have to trust your gut about what works in your own home and not worry so much about fashion. Colors may come and go quite quickly however so you may prefer to stick with natural colors if you are buying a large or expensive leather rug. That way your rug will have a timeless quality which you will not achieve if your rug is dyed in the latest colors.

The main type of leather rug which is in fashion just now is the leather shag rug. Shag rugs were the darling of the Seventies interior designer but they have recently made a roaring comeback. With a leather shag rug you have the chance to put a new spin on what might otherwise look retro.

This new type of shag rug is made from thin strips of leather dyed in a color of your choice, knotted onto a backing material like the rag rugs of old. This gives the whole rug a fabulous texture unmatched by any other type of flooring and if you buy one of these you will be rewarded not only with a luxurious look to your room but also a rug which is surprisingly soft and comfortable to walk on or sit on.

I do not know how long these rugs will remain popular but given the way they add texture and also how good they are at taking dye and being made into any color in the rainbow I cannot see them falling out of favor too quickly. You may not see them on the pages of Homes and Gardens in a couple of years but it is my guess that they will not be removed from the homes of “those in the know” very quickly as they are so attractive as well as practical.
