Outdoor Plant Containers

For some reason we really like crazy growing containers for things. They add interest to our outdoor entertainment area. They provide focal points. Most of all, though, they serve as the pots for our growing plants.

New on the scene in stores in the upside down planter tomato hanger. While home growers have been making a do it yourself version for some time, the green hanging basket for upside down growing of the tomato plant is a current fad. It gets to tomato plant off the ground and away from bugs that crawl the ground, as well as away from pets.

Red clay pots are a standard of garden and outdoor patio living. They come in a variety of different shapes and sizes.

Hydroponic plant growing has been around for decades. This is the perfect option for indoor apartment or condo living.  You can grow concentrated amounts of food in a small little area. The tomato is great in this medium, as is the salad favorite lettuce.

Whiskey barrels are an old stand by as a garden container. Discarded oak barrels are cut in half, and can provide bilateral ornamentation on either side of your sidewalk. They are great for flowers such as marigolds, or you could try your kitchen herbs and make a chef’s garden.

Sometimes an old wheelbarrow will no longer be viable. People have used them as stationary planters for colorful flowers, and the look can be quite charming in the backyard.

More off the wall than the other items mentioned here are the practical recycled items that end up outside. These can include bathtubs filled with flowers, and even toilets. It is all a matter of taste. If you plan to put an old toilet in your yard, you might want to first check for any restrictions of your neighborhood Home Owners Association, and with your neighbors too. They may have some opinions to share with you about the idea.

Outdoor planters are something that you can add to over time. They are fun to find shopping online and at outdoor flea markets.
