This question might ridiculous to some of you, but I am totally serious. Do you have an attached garage? You know, the type of garage that is part of your home’s overall architecture and isn’t a stand alone structure.
Well, I bought an older home that didn’t come with an attached garage. The house is beautiful, and has all of the space and cool features I really wanted. The only downside is that I don’t have a place to park my car or any extra space for storage. And I definitely don’t have enough money to pay a contractor to build an attached garage for me.
So, I’m going the garage kit route. I buy it, have it delivered, and build it myself wherever I want on my property. The only thing is, I don’t have a lot of space to just arbitrarily put it where I want it.
My first choice was find a prefab garage that was large enough for my car and some extra storage space that was able to fit right next to my house. That way I could try to make it look like I had an attached garage, but the space wasn’t large enough for the garage kit I had chosen.
So it was on to plan B. I briefly considered the front lawn, but that would look incredibly funny and I’m sure my neighbors wouldn’t appreciate it. Fortunately my backyard is a decent size, so I would be able to fit the kit back there without having to downgrade to a smaller kit.
But how would I get my car back there every night to park the car? Easy! First, I didn’t have to worry about paving anything because the side of the house where an attached garage would have been was paved all the way to my backyard porch. I didn’t want to install the wooden garage kit on the porch, so I built it right next to the porch. That allowed me to have a cement “driveway”, so I wouldn’t be dragging mud everywhere when it rained.
So instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars having an attached garage built from scratch, I spent about $679 for a beautiful wooden garage kit that does the job just as nice as an attached garage.
