Pros and Cons of a Washer Dryer Combo

Many people are unfamiliar with the washer dryer combo. They allow you to take all your clothes, place them in a single machine and then once finished you are left with clean dry clothes. You do not have to take clothes out of one machine and then put them into another. The washing and drying functions co-exist in the same machine. It is a fantastic machine but does have a couple of drawbacks.

If you find yourself having to walk down dark corridors to a basement laundromat or finding time to go to a laundry, the washer dryer combo is an ideal machine. They are usually not much bigger than a conventional washing machine or dishwasher and can come on wheels. This allows them to be stored quite simply and set up requires access to a faucet with cold water and a drain pipe.

Most washer dryers are ventless, so no vents or ducting are required. They are also energy star rated which means they use less water and electricity than standard separate washers and dryers. Despite these advantages there are still a few points to consider before buying one.

These appliances are often more suitable for people whom do not have a lot of washing to do. They are particularly suited to students, single people or two person households. The reason is that the cycles, especially the drying cycle will take longer than a dedicated dryer. Also the load sizes have to be small because you need to allow room for the clothes to move about in whilst they are drying. If you do not do this, you will usually be left with lots of very wrinkled clothes which will lead to more ironing.

Washer dryers tend to work under very specific circumstances. The drain, attached to the machine, must be of a certain height to prevent any leaking and it is best to position the machine on a concrete surface or hard surface so that it runs smoothly. I would advise measuring the height of your drain prior to purchase.

It is also worthwhile considering repairs. As these are a relatively new machine many repair engineers may not know a lot about them. It is worthwhile checking the manufacturers website for information on local repair engineers. Also these machine are not cheap, often in the region of a thousand dollars but they are often cheaper then two separate machines and will save money with their efficiency.
